If your looking to get into Japanese live action movies, look up Takashi Miike. He did the great but hard to watch Ichi the Killer and a lot of very innovative work: Visitor Q, City of Lost Souls, Audition, The Happiness of the Katakuris, Dead or Alive, Full Metal Yakuza are all worth a watch
