I went to a Survival Research Labs party at a warehouse in West Oakland. It was this quasi satire on Armed Forced Day. There was a tank on the roof, tweakers with their wallets attached to their chains, artists in military fatigues lighting off huge rockets, indie punk bands, and then the Bey-Bey kids from the neighborhood running around throwing frisbee's at each other while their parents sat on the periphery with their pit bulls, wondering how all the white kids infiltrated their neighborhood. If a little kid hasn't been struck by a rocket in the eye, and I hadn't been offered 10 beanpies by the Nation of Islam, the scene would have been really cool.
