if its a laptop, you need really small screw drivers to get into it.. so I would just take it to apple if you have apple care.
If its a tower... DVD/CD roms are so cheap... you could replace it.. maybe even upgrade to a DVD RW but first off look inside the tower and see if a cable is loose.
