yeah, the requirement of skill set we need to have is much higher than it used to be.
I think it's good to work with developer if you aren't good at programming end. then you can focus on the design aspect. It usually works fine because developer can do it much faster than you ever be able to work. So it saves time and frustration.
but i think flash coding is slightly different as it can effect the look and feel significantly.
as for the job market, people like to hire people they know or come from someone they know. Most of my interviews went like..."oh, so you worked at company A, do you know so and so?" "oh, yeah, i know him, i used to work with him" it's a small world...
