    Hah! I am finding brothers and sisters in arms here.

    My issue with contests is the notion that we-designers are to be the answer to everything. We are not. We are part of the equation.

    It is just that people have specialized in this field. Experts, I dare say. But experts only deliver what you ask them to deliver. We do not have all the answers, as a client is to be the expert of his product. We the experts of communicating what he want to say about it (or agrees on what we feel like saying about it). If a client's input cannot meet his own quality expectation, a designer will not - or cannot be expected - to deliver the output you so crave for.

    So reading that this is done to assure quality just exposes that the person holding this contest does not want to do his part of the process.

    Now it its called like it is (a pitch) the balance is different. So are the players.
