I agree, contest cheapen the industry. They do take advantage of designers.
9 times out of 10 people holding these contests have no idea what their brand is about so they think that if they go with bunch of designers they might stumble across it instead of looking at their own company first. Cause if you know what you want and what your company stands for you should be able to articulate that to a designer.
Also what guarnetee would we have to you would actually pay up?
Sitepoint holds these contest all the time I followed them for a bit entered a few, and I found that most times the person holding the contest never found what they were looking for and or it just dragged on for days until they felt like they had to pick one.
