Think Columns of text, gutters to separate them, flow-lines (horizontal gutters), hanglines and think of line-heights as units of measure, so you can fit 3-4-5 (whatever you want) lines of text in each ‘module’, and a single or couple of lines of text in the flowlines, this is the classic modular grid of which Brockmann was such an advocate. These modules can be aggregated to create larger areas for illustration and text.
Then mash it up and deconstruct.
