dippy's got the right idea imo...
im currently 3rd year Communication Design/IT student, and fark, the first 2 years I did SFA - most of the IT subs were fkn killing the creativity out of me, i was just sick of that shit... :\so what i did was tried the best i could first semester or two, to obtain a reasonably high gpa - and from doing this, i learnt how much effort to put in, in order to get a reasonable grade for the following semesters.
This not only meant i could afford a couple of 3's [bare or "conceded" pass] on the harder subjects in 2nd and 3rd year ;) [unlike many of my mates] as it wont hurt my GPA too much, but also allowed me to have alot more time for my personal projects/work and to focus on what i want to get out of all this, rather than doing the boring as, narrow minded briefs i get from uni [ok not all them are, most].
Trust me, i was very much like you by the end of semester two; unmotivated, uninspired, and growing tired of my subjects. but the summer break really gave me a chance to think, and so far this has worked out for me. i want the degree, just so i can further my career more than anything else, and if i learn something along the way, its a bonus, but im not letting it get in the way of what i want to do [namely design].
