If you are satisfied with it, you should run with it. Originality is far better then a collection of ideas from other people that don't suit what you like, can do or want to do.
I say, if you like the wood background because it gives you warm fuzzies... then use it. Your portfolio isn't a corporate website, so the content is communicating enough. Eye candy at this point isn't a bad thing. Your work will show the variety and style that you have.
It is a reflection of you. Do what you like.
One question. Who where you working for when you did the nissan, lexus and infinity stuff? It's good.
