i understand the issue. but i think it's best to have it done in japan by a japanese master. although there are a couple of westerners who have been apprenticed there. such as ed hardy for example (check http://www.tattoocitysf.com/)
anyways, imho i think you have to be japanese to be tattooed in a japanese way. westeners have their own tattoo culture which is totally different than the japanese one. then again, that's my opinion and the one and only reason i have no japanese tattoos.
