    I think there may be a bit o' confusion in this thread...

    Typography is different than Type design...

    Typesetter:  A person who put the text together. This refers to “the good old days” when the lead was in power and printers daily paper, publishers, etc. had to have people to put together all the textsetting by hand. Later on this could also be done by machines...

    Typographer:  A person who has a high level of knowledge regarding typefaces, typography, printing methods etc. They used to have a precious position at publishers, letterpresses and similar institutions. They where the ones who decided what kind of typefaces to use for books and other printed material.

    Type designer:  A person who actually designs the typefaces. Everything from redrawings of older designs to new ones from scratch.
