i can not help too much on the pc side...
some ideas:
when you reinstall: uninstall first.
maybe there is a corrupt font. remove fonts and add one... does illy work? quit illy; add another font; does illy work... repeat until corrupt font found.
memory allocation?
optimize the drive?
i work on a mac... so these would be the things i would look at...
