hmm weird...I've only seen him speak on the Hillman Curtis video thingy, and I didn't get that attitude from his book. Maybe if I read it again with that in mind I'll get the same thing from it.
I figured you might be more familiar with his self-promotional stuff which I think for the most part he uses himself as the model...but I just think that it works for his studio if he plays it like he's kind of a front man for a band.
I really liked his book a lot, but I always got the feeling he was a pretty humble guy...I guess I'll have to try and hear him speak sometime. I hate arrogance in designers, I used to really like Joshua Davis until I saw a video of him speaking...seemed very fake like you say. But for some reason I took Sagmeisters humor as more playfulness than arrogance.
