as far as voltage is concerned...the card is usually only keyed to fit in the correct agp slot. but, there are cards out there that fit in both. if the card physically fits in the slot, then you're probably ok.
most older cards are 3.3V, newer cards are 1.5v. agp 8x/3.0 cards are 1.5v or 0.8v. that could be your problem...the mobo is agp 8x? your nvidia card may simply be too old.
what model card do you have?
sounds like you need a nvidia card that is 1.5v and 8x compatible.
