    October 1984 –
    Paul Mockapetris (then at USC's Information Sciences Institute) designed the architecture of the new Domain Name System.
    RFC 920 establishes 7 generic “top level domains” (gTLDs, including .com, .net, .org and .gov) to provide domain space for corporations, non-profits, schools, networks, US government offices and the US military.

    Looking for a domain name registered in 1984 or 85. That is the earliest date I would think that one could be registered.
