stewart - the breed is amazing. they are the first ever domesticated breed (abyssina is now known as ethiopia). They're not exactly "lap cats" but they are totally lovable. They have the energy (and personality somewhat) of a dog They are the most curious animal i've ever shared a home with (if you get one, you'll never use the bathroom, take a shower, eat, read, talk on the phone... alone again.)
My wife and I have 2. Roscoe (and the photo you're showing) is known as a ruddy. We also have a "red" named Biscuit. Roscoe is the clown and Biscuit is the sweet lover girl.
As for loosing hair. I suppose they shed just as much as any other cat, but they don't loose their hair as in go bald.
