slide scanners themselves rock, it's the attached slide scanner (a lid with a friggin lightbulb that moves) on flatbeds that blow. the resolution is never very good as it's simply a work-around option. it's ok for simple jobs or low-end stuff but if you want to get the most out of the tranny–especially an older one–you're better off with the dedicated tranny scanners.
the best ever would be to get some drum scans of 'em. you'll get top-o-the line quality which i guess is good as the images are probably important to you?
