  any thoughts of usign the "1" inside of that countdown graphic , and then usign one of your "ten" designs from teh wayback to go before it?

  might get the job done.
  it is readable, it has the countdown element, and with the number inside of it, it makes it easier to understand what it is supposed to be.

  PS. if the client loves what you have, give it to them. As long as they are happy and they pay you, forget it.
