what are .DS Store files on osx??

They are just information on window placement, settings for use on OSX...can be deleted safely. You can also set some networking software or your system to ignore or delete them.
Sort of similar to those pesky 'thumbs.db' files that Mac users will recieve along with images from people using Windows.
