generic:
if you try to mount it on wood, use plywood. this will keep seasonal wood movement to a minimum. and use good plywood at that (birch is a good choice).
you can band the edges of the plywood with wood banding...

it would seem like a real bitch to get the poster mounted straight and wrinkle free. i don't have any thoughts on that.
