Into the first turn, Emilio quickly whispered to Consuela, "el toreador .. ahora .. necesito."
Consuela's deep focus carried her through two full turns before she could process what Emilio had just said and then bat her left eye thrice, the signal she had been giving Emilio for twelve years to indicate that she was on the same page.
Just then, Escobar felt a twinge down the back of his neck. He knew something big was about to happen, but couldn't seem to put his finger on it. Certainly, they wouldn't go for el toreador, he thought. It wasn't possible.
