What you should do is lock yourself in a room with your computer and just practice. Avoiding life, health, relationships and everything around you until you have profected a style truly of your own. Maybe start with drawing directly from hand and utilizing a scanner and Adobe Streamline. Also surround yourself with as many examples of the art that you most want to do. Buy books, magazines, etc. Get to know the illustrator tools by heart.
I once had a friends who I encouraged to do the same and now they're amazing. But ultimately it will come to you if the talent and heart is there.Good luck...
