with any os update installs, make sure you repair permissions before and after. that sometimes help fix things that may cause issues at startup.
also check your startup items in the accounts pref to make sure nothin out of the ordinary is messing things up.
same with after startup, open Activity Monitor to check if things are running that shouldn't be.
