Apple are a fatastic example of commodity fetishism as discussed by the Frankfurt school. The objects they create are so aesthetically pleasing and are surrounded by a 'cool' branded persona that people just can't help themselves.

I saw a woman in john Lewis at the weekend buying a computer - she wanted to work from home. She explained they had PCs at work so the sales guy started showing her some budget PCs. With his spiel finished the woman said "Oh, but I like the look of these pretty ones" pointing at the Apples. She walked out with a brand new iMac. Case in point.
