i used to showcase a lot more work than i do now.
then i cut down all and narrowed it down to 10 or so projects. if i can't convince clients with those, it just means i haven't done well enough. then again, this is relative because we all use our portfolio site in different way.
from my own experience, many clients/employers are sold on the brand names and companies i worked on. that alone is enough for them. it's pretty sad. there are only a few who people who see beyond.
also now days, all the projects i get comes from people i know recommending me to people they know. it's like a clique. if you are in, you are in. this makes extremely hard for newbies to break in.
