I don't think this thread is dead quite yet, it's the only thing interesting on here.
anyways, i missed out on this mornings discussion. My 2 cents:
I think a portfolio is an expression of the creator, but you need to be selective. Figure out who your audience is and what they are looking for.
Many portfolios, especially design related, contain too much work. You gotta show em the good stuff and cut the crap (or at least bury it in your site so it takes some digging). I think too many start up designers are anxious to show everything and come off as sloppy by doing so.
imo.
