On the aid issue... President Jimmy Carter once commented: 'We are the stingiest nation of all'.
Apparently US foreign aid is overall the largest of any country (Japan was number 1 for a while) , but per capita it's the lowest of any industrialised nation (or in 22nd place or something). Not sure of best reference sources on this (Google it).
Shouldnt this be in 'Politics'?
