The ideal would be that patriotism and love for America would inspire people to volunteer for the military not be forced to defend it at the threat of jail time or the death penalty.
abstrakt -- you're deceived. Listen to the man's words, not the media interpretation of them.
Also, I'm not sure what you mean about the outspokeness of this election. I know a lot of people think it was "close" but always remember that Bill Clinton was never elected by more than 49% of the popular vote. Bush, 51%.
