no..didnt get $$ up front, even though i asked for it. it was explained to me that as it was a federal grant, i could only be hired as a "consultant" to avoid bureaucratic processes. and appareantly "consultants" dont get paid up front. I put all my trust in the fact that tis was a federal project.
