In Germany we had 6 weeks vacation plus public holidays from year 1, and you can drink beer at work (they almost force you to), and you HAVE to bring in champagne on your birthday. No free snacks though.
They did have this bread roll machine where you look in a spyhole to see if there are still broetchen in there, then put in 10pfennig, and out comes a 'gummi-broetchen' (rubber-roll).
When I first started at Opel you had to bring your own cutlery to the canteen, and rinse your own plates...and these really large women would come round with huge vats of soup on wheels.... strange place Germany...
