yea that's what i'm thinking zedvox, portugues + indian food has got to be a winner. bet they play capoeira on the beaches there too..
monkey might have been based on Hanuman, but i meant the japanese series "monkey magic", which was based on ancient Chinese mythology, made into a satirical book by Wu Ch'êng-ên in the 16th century - it traces the origins of buddhism back to india. Anyways the main character is the monkey king, who gets kicked out of heaven for being naughty and he has to take Tripitaka the boy priest (who is confusingly actually a girl) on a pilgrimage to find buddha in Ganghara before he can get back to heaven.
the theme song was "In Ganghara, Ganghara, they say it was in india, Ganghara, Ganghara, the place of life Ganghara..."
Anyways don't know if it was the same place but it sure looked like somewhere buddha would have hung out. And it was on the corner of india, nepal and china (tibet) so geographically seems like the sort of place where buddhism might have crossed into china.
