fate, that is a good point, but I don't think my analogy is entirely incorrect. I recall years ago seeing a story on the news about a TV which would automatically adjust the volume depending on how loud the show was, thus keeping the output throttled. I don't know how successful this feature was, but I have not seen anything like it ever again. Why, I don't know, and I realize it might be a bit of a stretch, but maybe people just didn't like having their TV make decisions for them. This is just speculation, though, as I said I have seen NOTHING of this for a long time.
I still argue that it is still highly presumptuous to launch a full screen window in an environment where you and I, as the creators, have absolutely no knowledge of the user environment. To use myself as an example, I never have just a browser open and it is never maximized. To alter the settings I prefer without my permission is not a right I extend to third parties. Now, with that said, if I know I am launching a full screen window, that is another story.
