I think this player is poop but I do think 5 GB is plenty of space. Sure your 40 is full- cool- but how much of that are you going to listen to? For one- the average american does not have more than 5 GB total in their collection (I currently have 17,894 songs- 154GB worth but a 10GB ipod)-
For two- even if you have more (like me) most (including myself) do not feel a need to carry EVERYTHING around with them. I load a few good playlist and use the ipod more for file transfer than music half the time.This is aimed at average american- who just yesterday was carrying a CD player with 14 songs let alone 2,000
