It's a cultural thing, ladies and germs. The Americans are about money first, aesthetics second. It's the make 'em cheap and get them out fast. Europeans have always been form AND function. It's partly education and partly cultural.
Does that explain the Germans strange obsession with white socks and sandals and multicoloured backpacks?
