well.. its getting bigger and bigger.. kind of wierd for me acctually.. i dont like things getting to big in a creative agency.. but thats just me. Seems like people get hired above you and the spots close up easier as you grow
But, the best way to get higher in companies... is get hired into that position.. and do well.
like most places its easier to get like a Senior Art Director/ACD by getting a good portfolio then getting hired at another company.
Things move so fast now it is rare to stay at the same company.
But pretty much in the end to move up anywhere you need to have good work skills but most of all.. you need people skills, client skills, leadership and great thinking and question asking.
If you do these.. you will go far no matter what.
There are lots of designers who are awesome but never go anywhere as far as leading because they ... just cant.
If you want to design all your life... cool.. but you wont see many old designers.. so its best to learn the other skills to help you stay in the buisness longer.
