Why would you need access to a Public defender if you didn't do anything?? These are your rights...use them and protect them or they just might not be there tomorrow.
Fact is that some people would like to retain their rights to protect themselves. Not all of us put 100% of our trust in the fact that a nice police man will pull up and stop a car jacker or rapist in the nick of time.
