a good balance is great to have, if you go head long into 3d and loads of programs that do quasi 3d you will become a perspective mess, if you want to do a certain thing use a certain program that does that thing, after effects does what it's name says, 3d studio does exactly that. If you only want a little move almost a hint of 3d use AE but if you want to do a rotation or a pan around an object then use a 3d application you will be pleased and impressed : ) .
