It doesn't make sense because biologically women are constructed differently than men. Yes they may have caught up timing wise in the short run (haha) just as they have in the long run (marathon times). It is probably due to the fact that more women are seeing running as a career option so the pool of athletes is larger and competition more intense. They have left out sociological factors in that write up which would account for the recent rise.
