Lived in Kaivopuisto Park, overlooking the Baltic Sea, next to the US Embassy from 2000 until 2001. Very cold in the winter, but this time of year it's pleasant as I can remember it. You can get around on the trams quite easily enough. It's on the expensive side as a whole although form your profile you're probably converting British Sterling. There have been a few threads on this and I know we mentioned a ton of places. The city centrum is a bit too touristy but nearby you find some nice underground clubs, coffe shops, museums and bars. Excellent women mate.

BTW, it's quite common for UK guys to marry Finnish women. They are beauties, especially the ones with the moxed Russian and Swedish blood. if you have enough time, take a cruise ship to Tallin, Estonia. Also brilliant.
