well it actually can pay for itself in many ways. i was working on a project that i was getting 400 bones to do. one day my screen went on my iMac, would have cost $400 to get it fixed so needless to say, all the work I did for the client would have put my computer back to it's original state and i would have made nothing but............. I didn't have to worry about it casue i had AppleCare.
if you use a laptop, i would highly suggest it, most people, no matter what type of laptop it is, move the computer around while it's on or working, overtime that could be very bad, ie hard drive takes a crap since it's spinning while being moved around. so if that happens, you're covered.
