Really crazy story...I'll try to make it as short as possible with still making sense.
I just graduated HS in May with a 4.0 so I thought I was pretty much set to go to any school that I had wished to. I was going to go to the University of Cincinnati school of Architecture (Surprisingly now rated #1 in the states.)
I sent in my application, even received a pretty nice scholarship directly from the school. However, I got totally screwed because my HS never sent in my transcripts before the closing date of the school. So ironically enough, I had been offered nearly enough money to pay for all my school there, but got denied admission for this year based on my HS's lame buttoxes.
Of course, at the time it felt like 4 years of busting my own had been thrown entirely down the drain.
In another strange turn of events, my friend and his wife who are young execs within Proctor and Gamble were moving to China and invited me to come along for the year since my college plans were totally screwed.
Luckily enough, "going abroad" was an excuse good enough to defer my scholarship until next year. So, I am still going to go there, with my scholarship, just a year later. Someone from above still seems to be taking care of me.
For this year, I am teaching english at a local college here in Guangzhou, a fun but real dump of a city a couple hours train ride north of Hong Kong. The pollution here makes LA seems like Green Acres. You can barely see the sun on a cloudless day through the smog.
I am still doing freelance graphic design work through a couple companies back in the 'Nati that I previously did work for. It's not so bad of a deal considering you can survive on about 60 USD a week out here, including rent and meals. So essentially I only have to work about 2-3 hours a week doing design work to survive. I do the english teaching so I'm not bored and to meet some people who actually speak my language.
Pretty crazy where life takes you when you least expect it.
