    Nick,

First of all, I am older than you... why all this talk about humility and young designers, when you yourself are younger than I....

You have NO idea what I am doing right now, and what YM is doing to shift my career, marketing potential, and otherwise push myself as a brand. It shocks me that you would assume that I am sitting around on my ass, while my website is generating that amount of traffic.

I do not understand why you hate on me so bad.

As far as clients go, Stylehard was one of our first “Urban sites” which got linked off k10k 2 days after we launched it... last I heard, you were down in San Francisco in some office tower working for another company.

I totally and utterly respect that, and I too may work for another company one day, but for now, I run my own shit, and sail my own boat. This is the way I’ve done it for a while, and this is the way I will continue to do it.

I rep myself sooo hard, so that I am able to do fun stuff and be creative. I don’t know where I would be right now without MediaTemple. I am transferring over 20 GB per month off my server, which would cost me way more than I could spend on hosting, due to the number of hits specifically from YM, and being linked at various sites around the net.

I am sorry that all of your friends think I am a joke, but I don’t see myself as one. I am simply laying the groundwork for a huge operation which has MEat the middle as a marketable brand.

I haven’t been designing as much as I would like, due to the immense work it takes to handle with booking, YM, TV appearances, etc.

All press is good press, and I am simply taking advantage of the situation. My photography is the main focus on my site right now, and is being seen by millions of people, as it was intended, seeing as this is a “global village” (McLuhan)

I get countless emails from young girls and boys that tell me how inspired they are to keep doing what they are doing, or to take up photography or design. I think this is the most powerful part of the whole thing.

I actually have met Cina and Young, and chilled with them after flashinthecan2003. They are very humble people. One of my idols is Joshua Davis, who is much different than Cina and Young, and I find that his personality is more close to mine. This allowed me to have him speak at my highschool during flashinthecan.

I do have a formal education in design, not at a post secondary institution, but at my high school where we were taught the likes of Mau amongst others.

Nick, you are younger than me, and if my memory serves me correctly did not finish a formal training in post secondary design.

Design is a life long learning process and one will never know everything there is to know, because it is being re-invented at the speed of light.

I think that you have to get over whatever is causing you to have a beef or problem with me, from back in the Lounge days.

I understand that if you don’t like me then you are entitled to your own opinion.

Anyway, I just thought I had to say something, because frankly, I didn’t say anything yesterday in that Derek top 3 post. I read it after I got back from a photoshoot, and was saddened to see people talking behind my back, so to speak, and then you bashing me whenever you had the chance, like some kind of kindergarten bully.

I am sorry if my attitude or lifestyle offend you Nick, and I am sorry that you cant seem to want to talk to me, and continue to block me on MSN. I think you are a great guy, and I think we could do some really cool stuff together...

    Derek Blais
