old houses are great because they have charm and character that you can't emulate with faux finishing. plus since nothing is plumb, your carpentry can suck and that's okay! my house is over 100 years old and i spent a couple years to renovate it. yes, home depot got a percentage of my income and i paid an electirican for the big stuff: breaker box, central air, etc. and ghosts are sometimes friendly.
