Best thing you can do is just start in. You learn as you go. Start acrylic then move towards oil. i enjoy oil alot more for glazing and such. Acrylic just dries too fast.
Get some large flats and some small rounds to start. As you work you'll find out what your favorites are.
Get the base colors and start experimenting. Don't take it too seriously or you'll end up with junk.
