hey man..
a quick way to get an asphalt look is to pick a dark gray colour..
go into lighting effects (in photoshop) and mess about with, say, the 2:00 spotlight...stretch it about till you get the desired lighting, then go to the bottom area and click on the button for the 3d effect ..the one that selects either r, g or b to either stick out or recess..anyhow, i once had to do a magazine ad that required half the page to look like asphalt..thats how i did it...and it turned out great..
you'll have to muck about with it till you get it right tho....either that or google image search till you find something you like..
