Hey...
It doesnt mean your not supposed to do logos man =)Take your original thought and work on it. Im sure it will turn up well. Keep it up!
I´ve made quite a few logos & corporate id´s and far from all of them look good =)
Try to make an even more simplified symbol and put it in context... Try combining it with some typography (no you dont have to draw your own typefaces)
Sometimes a symbol is enough sometimes the typo is strong to stand on its own... Just keep experimenting.
