CAJ- an slr is great for what you mention, a lomo is also great for what you mention.
though "just leave it up to the camera to make your subject look good"? i wish baby.
if you want to stick to the lomo society 'shoot from the hip' marketing campaign, go ahead. Though just as any other camera, why follow trends?
i sure as hell use my lomo just as i would my slr, just when dicking around isn't an option (ie, out and about, hanging out of car windows, camera in the pocket etc etc).
seems some people can't get over the 'gimick'...
