Yes, I've seen them twice in a year. They grew up in Oak Park, ILL, so Chicago is like their hometown. I guess when they play shows about two dozen of their extended family shows up, it's awesome.Anyhow, I've actually never heard any of their records, but I went to see them first when
Gallowsbirds Bark came out, and then another time about two months before this next one came out, and both, overall, were spectacularianist.Elanor, the singer and sister, has this bizarre stage presence; I guess she's a girl Ian Curtis trying to be Mick Jagger.
Her brother, Matt appears on stage like he wants to be some Rick Wakeman maestro, but I think he's more of a music nerd who doesn't know how to be a manager. At the first show, at Schubas (this little wooden club), they were on stage with a Japanese guy on bass and keys and a drummer. Matt's centerpiece vintage synth pooped out on him and he threw a genuine hissy fit in front of everyone. In poor taste ... Otherwise they did pretty well with their nine year-old-cousins and mom and dad and uncles in the audience.
I think by now they have this great presence on stage with mountains of gear and pedals and shit, making this weird Doors shanty music with an occasional Eddie Van Halen riff. Solid.
