I think Kona's advice is noble, if not unattainable...to some extent.
If you are moving into a corporate position, be prepared to drop your pants and bend over. You aren't going to change anything. Granted a few more pieces will go out with your 'touch', they will not, however have any true visual desire.
The anti to that is the small shop that put out shit work and is looking for someone to help out. This is your chance to shine. The opportunity to turn the companies brand and products they put out into something truly awesome is ripe. This means more work on your end too. Instead of just designing 'cool' comps, you'll have to convince the establishment of the business ramifications and positive prospects your 'new/daring' visual direction is headed. Essentially you'll be wearing several hats, marketing, analysis, and ia to name a few.
in the end, weigh your options and your needs. consider whether you will be seem as a fresh contributor or temporary backfill. If you choose to take the job, commit yourself to at least 6mos with the company before leaving. if you know it sucks within 1 month, suck it up...you've got 5 more months to go.
word.
