I have a cat. She tore up a corner of my old couch, but here's how to break them of that, and keep them from destroying mini blinds, and other things:
Take duct tape, clear packing tape looks a little better. Cut thin strips and at the ends put a reversed piece of tape.
Sprinkle red pepper, cayan pepper, black pepper, all over and then put the tape on the fabric, or blinds, or counter top so that the pepper is facing out.They HATE that stuff. Totally solved the problem after my cat destroyed the blinds on 10 windows in my old place.
Definatly have a scratching post, spread cat nip around it too.
